EK is a publisher of children’s picture books only. Our motto is ‘books with heart on issues that matter’ and our books are aimed primarily at children aged 4 to 8. We also publish middle-grade fiction.

We welcome submissions from literary agents, as well as new and established authors. Before submitting, please check out our Published Titles to get a feel for our current list, and take advantage of the resources we make available through the Children’s Publishing Academy.

Illustrators

EK Books does not carry insurance for submitted manuscripts, so always keep a copy of your work.

  • Previous Experience: If you have illustrated children’s books in the past please include these in your submission.
  • Digital Portfolio: We do not accept hard copy submissions.

Authors

Please include:

  • Contact Information: name, address, phone number, email and any relevant web presence.
  • Proposal: Your manuscript should be accompanied by a written 1-2 page proposal explaining why your book should be published, who your intended audience is, how it differs from other similar books on the market (be specific and refer to any competing titles that you know of), and any previous experience/qualifications you have as an author. 
  • Digital Manuscript: Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, in an easy-to-read typeface, with a wide margin. Make sure pages are numbered.If you also intend to illustrate your manuscript, or have an illustrator in mind, please include a selection of sample illustrations (photocopies, not originals), and indicate how the artwork would be supplied if the book was accepted for publication.
