EK is a publisher of award-winning children’s books. Our motto is ‘books with heart on issues that matter’ and our books are aimed primarily at children aged 4 to 8. We also publish middle-grade fiction.
We welcome submissions from literary agents, as well as new and established authors. Before submitting, please check out our Published Titles to get a feel for our current list, and take advantage of the resources we make available through the Children’s Publishing Academy.

Free Submissions
Please follow the instructions below to submit your work to EK Books through our standard, free process. Due to the high volume of submissions received, you will only hear back if we are interested in publishing your book in its current format. Submissions are assessed within 8-12 weeks. Please only send professional, correctly formatted submissions. If you are not 100% confident your book is ready, please select one of the other options.
Priority Submissions
To stand out in the competitive world of children’s publishing, you need to learn what publishers today expect from children’s authors. Created by publishers from EK Books, the Children’s Publishing Academy home-study program will show you how to maximize your chances of success. Because we know graduates of this program deliver high-quality submissions, they are granted priority consideration.
Assessed Submissions
Before submitting or resubmitting your book, get actionable feedback directly from the EK Books editorial team. Learn how to build on your strengths and fix any impediments that may have been holding you back from publication until now. Receive a guaranteed response with one page of actionable feedback within 7-21 days of submission. After receiving feedback, you may improve your book and take advantage of priority submission to EK Books.
Illustrators
Do not send hard copy samples – digital only.
EK Books does not carry insurance for submitted manuscripts, so always keep a copy of your work.

- Previous Experience: If you have illustrated children’s books in the past please include these in your submission.
- Digital Portfolio: We do not accept hard copy submissions.
Authors

- Proposal: Your manuscript should be accompanied by a written 1-2 page proposal explaining why your book should be published, who your intended audience is, how it differs from other similar books on the market (be specific and refer to any competing titles that you know of), and any previous experience/qualifications you have as an author.
- Digital Manuscript: Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, in an easy-to-read typeface, with a wide margin. Make sure pages are numbered.If you also intend to illustrate your manuscript, or have an illustrator in mind, please include a selection of sample illustrations (photocopies, not originals), and indicate how the artwork would be supplied if the book was accepted for publication.
